Important Dates & Events:
Thursday, November 12th- Independent Virtual Learning Day for Students
Teachers will discuss with the class the expectations and assignments for this day prior to Thursday. This would be a wonderful time to complete and submit any unfinished work or missing assignments for the first quarter.
Friday, November 13th- Student and Teacher Holiday (No School)
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Math- This week we are going to be working with dividing using 2 digit divisors. This year, the students will be introduced to the topic and will practice to gain mastery. There will be videos that your students can watch again if they are not understanding the material. I encourage you to watch it with them. The videos encourage students to round the divisor to the nearest 10s number before they attempt to divide in order to find a number that is in the quotient. It will take a few days of practice before everyone is comfortable with this. A quiz on this will be scheduled for the asynchronous day on Thursday.
Science- We will continue to study the ocean this week. I am super excited to announce that we will have a guest speaker from Reef Relief in Key West, FL dialing into the class on Tuesday. Reef Relief® is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to improving & protecting our coral reef ecosystem.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading- This week, we will review a useful strategy for summarizing fiction. Students will complete a brief reading assessment on Wednesday, November 11th. The assessment will cover plot mountain, theme, summarizing, and characterization. A new independent work menu with this week’s assignments will be posted. Important due dates and explanations of assignments are located on this document. Your child will be able to access this document by going to their Reading course and clicking on the Materials section. The menu will be in this week’s folder that will be labeled, November 9-13 th. I will explain everything on this menu in class. The menu will be posted Monday or Tuesday evening.
English- Students will revise and edit their rough drafts. They will be asked to submit their final copy by next Tuesday, November 17th, at 8pm using the submission form in their English course. This form will be posted this week and reviewed with the class.
Social Studies- This week, we will explore some historical sites in Henrico County. Students will begin working on a flier for a historical site discussed in class. We will have a quiz on this material next Thursday, November 19th.
