In math, we have finished with order of operations. We will be reviewing the subject more as they year goes on, but we are going to be focusing on computation in the coming weeks. I know most of the students know their facts, but it is always a good idea for them to brush up on them maybe once or twice a week. To do this, they can go to this link and take a math timed test. This test tracks how long it takes your child to do a set number of problems. They can then email that score to you. If they do it once a week, you should see progress in the number correct and also the amount of time that it takes for them to do it.
In writing, we are doing Wordly Wise Lesson 7 this week. Wordly Wise is a great program to get the students understanding that words have multiple meanings and also how those meaning change depending on which part of speech the word is. They should be working on both classwork and homework with the words and a quiz will be on Thursday this week. To do well on the quiz, your child will need to know the meaning of the words as well as the part of speech. They will also need to be able to use the words correctly in a sentence. I am excited to be using this program as it helps to enhance word choice and vocabulary in the student's writing.
As a reminder, tomorrow is Picture Day. Please make sure to have your child bring in their money if they would like to order pictures. If you would like, you can pay online. If you do choose to pay online, please let your child know so they can tell the photographer when it is their time to take their picture.
