We are up and running! Things are zooming right along in Room 306! Last week was a lot of fun with design challenges every day! I am planning to post some pictures later that I took of the kids as they were working together to build, make, and create new things! Hopefully they have already shared with you some of the fun that we had! I am already trying to create even more challenges that we can do in the future.
As we are now back in the full swing of things, you should see more consistent homework coming home from me. I know that all of you have busy lives so most nights your child will have a few problems to review/do in math and a science concept to review/work on. I will always give at least 2 days advanced notice for tests, but usually take a quick pulse to determine how much more practice is needed before testing occurs. So, with that being said, your child will always know when a test is coming and should not feel as if he/she were surprised by it. If anything, I may push the testing date back if it seems like we need more time on a particular skill or concept. This week in math we are continuing our work with Integers. I am pleased with how we have set up the math notebooks this year and hope that you will find them useful when reviewing notes/studying with your child. In science, we began with our notions of what a scientist is and have flowed into the scientific method. There will be an activote quiz on the scientific method, but no formal test as we will be incorporating this into our science lessons for the rest of the year. In writing, your child has interviewed a classmate and has written a newspaper article about them. They are turning out to be fantastic and I can't wait for you to see them at Back to School Night next Thursday, Sept. 19.
